The Polaroid 600 Dine Instant Close-Up Camera was specifically designed for close-up photography by Lester A. Dine. Dine specialized in modifying Polaroid cameras for dental work and created the world’s first instant photography system for dentists. Dine Corp. still produces dental cameras today.
Dine’s close-up camera was built around a Polaroid 600 Supercolor camera. The sonar focus was secured to a specific point and then disabled, and the camera’s viewfinder and flash were both modified. The flash was fitted with a slide to reduce its power, and it’s permanently locked in place so that it’s always ready to use. The camera controls exposure automatically, but you can adjust it manually by removing the lens and frame attachment. Another way to control light and glare is by adjusting the sliding mask on the flash hood.
The black mount underneath the camera’s lens is where Dine’s interchangeable lenses are placed. To mount the lens, all you have to do is slide the tab on the lens holder into the mounting slot on the camera body.
While the average instant photographer may not be taking photos inside people’s mouths, this unique camera makes it super easy to take stunning close-up shots. The results are crisp, clear and detailed. And because these cameras were custom-built, they were produced in small quantities and are not easy to find. Grab one while you can!
