The Brother EP-5 is a compact electronic typewriter introduced in the 1980s in Japan, designed for convenience and mobility. Housed in a slim black plastic body, it combines modern electronic features with the reliability of Brother’s engineering. Compact enough to resemble a small briefcase when closed, it was one of the earliest battery-powered typewriters to bring word processing functionality to travel and field use.
This model features a full QWERTY keyboard, LCD display for text preview, correction memory and automatic paper feed. It uses Brother’s interchangeable cartridge ribbon system for clean, consistent typing and includes a built-in carrying case for easy transport.
This machine has been fully serviced, refurbished, and tested — ready to type right out of the box. Expect normal cosmetic wear consistent with its age, as well as a missing paper support, broken tabs on the top cover and some deeper marks in the bottom plastic.
As an authentic vintage item, each unit is unique and may exhibit light cosmetic wear consistent with previous use. Minor variations in appearance, materials, markings and design details are common and reflect differences in age, production and original manufacturing. As a result, your item may differ slightly from the photos shown.
