Harriet the Spy (1996) is a family comedy drama directed by Bronwen Hughes and starring Michelle Trachtenberg, Rosie O’Donnell and Gregory Smith. Based on the novel by Louise Fitzhugh, the film follows Harriet M. Welsch, an observant sixth grader who dreams of becoming a writer and spends her days secretly recording the habits and flaws of everyone around her. When her private notebook falls into the wrong hands, Harriet must face the consequences of her honesty and learn difficult lessons about friendship, trust and growing up.
