Invitation to the Dance (1956) is a musical anthology film directed by and starring Gene Kelly. The film presents three distinct stories told entirely through dance, without spoken dialogue. The first segment, "Circus," portrays a love triangle involving a clown, a ballerina and a trapeze artist. The second, "Ring Around the Rosy," follows a bracelet as it passes through various owners, revealing their romantic entanglements. The final segment, "Sinbad the Sailor," combines live-action dance with animation to depict the sailor's fantastical adventures. Notable for its ambitious storytelling through choreography, the film won the Golden Bear at the 6th Berlin International Film Festival.
