The Polaroid Sonar OneStep takes everything people love about early box-type SX-70 cameras and adds one of Polaroid’s most fascinating pieces of technology — Sonar AutoFocus. Using ultrasonic sound waves to measure distance, the camera automatically adjusts focus for sharper portraits, close-ups and everyday snapshots without any guesswork on your part. It’s weird, futuristic and surprisingly effective nearly 50 years later.
Originally designed for SX-70 film, this camera has been professionally converted by Retrospekt to use widely available Polaroid 600 instant film. In addition to being easier to source, 600 film’s faster ISO makes the camera more versatile in a wider range of lighting conditions than the original SX-70 format.
Unlike later 600 cameras, the Sonar OneStep does not feature a built-in flash. For best results, we recommend shooting outdoors or in bright natural light, or using compatible flash bars when additional light is needed.
As an authentic vintage camera, each unit is unique and may exhibit light cosmetic wear consistent with previous use. Production variations over the years mean labels next to the flash and above the film shield may differ, along with certain minor design details not reflected in the photos.
