The Sony Discman D-191 is a mid-1990s portable CD player from a period when Sony was refining the balance between sound quality, size and everyday usability. It plays standard audio CDs and features Digital Mega Bass, a processing mode intended to add low-end presence when using lightweight portable headphones. The front-mounted controls and small display allow basic track navigation and playback adjustments without opening the lid. The D-191 has a slim, contoured body, reflecting the gradual shift toward improved portability and longer battery life. It remains a straightforward CD-only unit, without support for recordable formats or compressed audio, representing the format just before CD-R compatibility and expanded anti-skip systems became standard.
