The Star Wars R2-D2 Telephone is a novelty landline phone released in the mid-1990s, designed to function as a fully operational push-button telephone. It features standard tone dialing with a numeric keypad built into the handheld receiver, along with redial capability and a modular cord connection for use with typical home phone jacks. The unit includes selectable ringer modes with both standard ring and R2-D2 sound effects, and integrates light and motion features in the dome that activate during incoming calls. Powered through the phone line with additional battery support for sound and movement functions, it reflects a period of character-based consumer electronics built around familiar household technology.
