Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) is a live-action action adventure film directed by Steve Barron and starring Judith Hoag, Elias Koteas and Josh Pais. Based on the Mirage Studios comic characters, the film follows four mutated turtle brothers trained in ninjutsu by their rat sensei Splinter as they emerge from the sewers to battle the criminal Foot Clan in New York City. Combining martial arts action with humor and a darker comic-inspired tone, the film became a defining pop culture hit of the early 1990s.
