Released in 1989, Hats is the second studio album by The Blue Nile, known for its restrained production and emotionally precise songwriting. Built around sparse synthesizers, drum machines and Paul Buchanan’s understated vocals, the album includes widely cited tracks like “The Downtown Lights” and “Headlights on the Parade.” Often regarded as a high point of late-’80s art pop, Hats has earned lasting critical recognition for its atmosphere, patience and influence well beyond its initial release.

Every cassette tape we sell is individually inspected, cleaned and rewound before being added to our inventory. We check for mold, examine the tape shell for damage, inspect felt pressure pads and replace them when needed to help ensure reliable playback.
We also verify that original J-cards and artwork are present and intact whenever applicable. To keep collections looking their best, all standard cassette releases are housed in new jewel cases.
We're picky about condition, presentation and playability, and only offer tapes we'd be happy to add to our own collections. While vintage media may show some signs of age, we do our best to ensure every cassette arrives clean, complete and ready to enjoy.
