The First Great Train Robbery (1978) is a British heist comedy directed by Michael Crichton, starring Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland and Lesley-Anne Down. Set in 1855, the film follows master thief Edward Pierce (Connery) as he plans to steal a shipment of gold bullion transported by train. Assembling a team, including pickpocket Robert Agar (Sutherland) and his mistress Miriam (Down), Pierce navigates numerous challenges to execute the daring heist. The film is loosely based on the real-life Great Gold Robbery of 1855. It received positive reviews, holding a 74% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and won the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Motion Picture.
