The Stunt Man (1980) is a satirical psychological black comedy directed by Richard Rush, starring Peter O'Toole, Steve Railsback and Barbara Hershey. The film follows Cameron, a young Vietnam War veteran on the run from the police, who hides on a World War I movie set and becomes involved in the dangerous world of film stunts under the guidance of the eccentric director Eli Cross. The narrative blurs the lines between reality and illusion, immersing the audience in a world where the boundaries between life and art are continually questioned. The film received critical acclaim, earning Academy Award nominations for Best Director, Best Actor (Peter O'Toole) and Best Adapted Screenplay. It also won the Grand Prix at the Montreal World Film Festival and a Golden Globe for Best Original Score.
