Yamaha YH-1 Orthodynamic On-Ear Headphones by Mario Bellini
A bold blend of industrial design and audiophile heritage, the Yamaha YH-1 headphones marked Yamaha’s entry into planar magnetic (orthodynamic) technology in the late 1970s. Designed by famed Italian architect and designer Mario Bellini, the YH-1 pairs precision engineering with a visually striking silhouette — featuring a split headband, articulated arms and distinct gear-like earcup edges.
Utilizing orthodynamic drivers, the YH-1 delivers a fast, detailed sound with excellent transient response and a natural tonal balance that still holds up decades later. Lightweight and comfortable with soft on-ear pads, these headphones remain a cult classic among audiophiles.
Note that the original fabric band has been replaced with a new band.
