Initially released in 1966, the Rollei 35 was lauded for its unparalleled compactness and high-quality optics, traits that still make it highly coveted by film photographers today. This little 35mm camera left an indelible mark on popular culture, from its use by Queen Elizabeth II to its appearance in Wes Anderson's "The Royal Tenenbaums.” To celebrate this classic camera, Retrospekt has created a limited release of vintage Rollei 35 cameras plated in 24-karat gold. Each camera comes with a special camera bag, lens attachments and wrist strap — all packaged in a special presentation box with a user manual.
Because these cameras are comprised of genuine, vintage parts, there will be signs of wear visible beneath the gold plating. Gold plating is considered to be a "living finish" which means it is subject to the effects of weather, moisture, air and natural oils from the skin. Over time, the finish can oxidize and develop a patina. To decrease these effects, take special care in cleaning and handling your camera. Do not use cleaners that are designed for metals other than gold. The best way to polish the camera is to use a soft cloth and no moisture.
