The Brother EP-20 is an ultra-compact electronic typewriter released in the early 1980s, manufactured in Japan. As one of the earliest mass-market portable electronic models, the EP-20 marked a shift from mechanical to digital typing, offering a lightweight and quiet alternative to traditional machines.
This model features a soft cream-and-brown plastic body, a small LCD screen for single-line previewing, and a thermal transfer ribbon system that eliminates the need for impact mechanics. It operates on either a 6V negative-tip power supply or four D batteries, making it ideal for use at a desk or on the go.
The EP-20 includes a built-in memory for limited text storage, automatic centering and underlining, and a repeat function for rapid input — all cutting-edge features for its time.
This unit has been fully serviced, refurbished, and tested, and comes with a fresh ribbon installed. It’s ready to use right out of the box. Includes the original hard plastic carrying case.
Expect typical cosmetic wear for its age.
Dimensions of typewriter case are 12.5” x 9.5” x 2"
As an authentic vintage item, each unit is unique and may exhibit light cosmetic wear consistent with previous use. Minor variations in appearance, materials, markings and design details are common and reflect differences in age, production and original manufacturing.
