At an annual company meeting in 1972, Polaroid founder Edwin H. Land pulled an SX-70 camera from his jacket pocket and introduced the world to the future of instant photography. Ten years later Polaroid took the best aspects of that camera, added in some key features and then converted it to use their 600 film, creating what is widely regarded as one of the finest instant cameras ever made.
The SLR 690’s collapsible body, exposure adjustment options, Sonar AutoFocus system and built-in flash give it a perfect blend of form and precision still highly sought by photographers today.
This unique SLR 690 features luxurious chrome covers and smoked flash housings, making it a stunning collector's piece.

Its beauty and technical capabilities are ageless, but to ensure it still works like the day it was first made, our team carefully refurbishes every camera by hand from the inside out. Each camera is deconstructed to its base components so its pieces can be checked, cleaned and serviced (or replaced if need be). This also includes a step unique to Retrospekt’s refurbishment process: using proprietary tools to internally recalibrate the shutter to expose true to the light/darken wheel so no compensation is needed in settings with normal lighting. The cameras are then reassembled with fresh, genuine leather covers and film tested to ensure they’re producing excellent exposures for another lifetime of use.

This camera has experienced decades of life before finding its way to Retrospekt. As such, it will show some signs of past use and may vary ever so slightly from what is pictured. However, we are extremely picky about the condition of the cameras we restore and the parts we select for the repair process.
