Much of the decision comes down to personal aesthetic. Many collectors and enthusiasts consider Sony Walkman models to be among the best ever made, but great cassette players were produced by many brands. Beyond aesthetics, the biggest differences are features like AM/FM radio, auto-reverse, recording capabilities and bass boost. No matter which model you choose, you'll get the core cassette experience of play, fast-forward and rewind.

Yes. Every vintage cassette player we sell is tested and serviced by our technicians to ensure it plays tapes as intended. This is a functional piece of audio equipment, not a prop or display item. We are real humans in Milwaukee, WI and ready to help you if any issues arise!

Cassette tapes have a warmer, more analog sound with a unique character all their own. If you're expecting lossless digital audio, you may be disappointed. If you're looking for a more intentional and tactile listening experience, you'll understand why so many people still love cassettes. Headphone quality also make a notable difference to the listening experience.
-
No. Most portable cassette players can be connected to any device with an auxiliary (AUX) input, including powered speakers, stereos and many cars. Simply connect a standard 3.5mm audio cable and enjoy your tapes through larger speakers.

Cassette tapes are easier to find than you might think. Retrospekt carries thousands of both vintage and newly released tapes, and many local record stores, thrift shops and vintage retailers stock them as well. Part of the fun is the hunt — you never know what you're gonna find!
-
Not at all. Insert a cassette, plug in your headphones, press Play and enjoy. Part of the charm of cassette listening is its simplicity — no apps, accounts or updates required.

Took awhile to respond. Was a present so had to wait for the person to open it. It works, looks great, sounds great, they LOVED it.
Got this as a gift for my mom who still uses her walkman and wanted a back up. She loves it and says it’s like new and the sound is great! Thank you so much!
Arrived in great condition, works exactly as described! Packed with care! Love my new tape player.

So far so good. It came super well packaged and shipped really fast! I'm really glad I pulled the trigger on this. I got an A grade and there's almost no wear on it at all and the sound quality is really impressive. Definitely recommend.
I used to have this exact model as a kid, and I'm so happy to have it back! Thanks!
The gift was for my sister, and it absolutely was the best. She loved it!
I got exactly what was ordered and the music sounds great!
If came exactly as I expected and looks great!
Has a lot of wow, I ordered a grade but got at max a b grade
works great
I was feeling nostalgic and started looking for a Walkman, and I found the perfect place to get one. Thank you for finding a niche that needed to be filled. Keep up the great work…I am sure you love the retro electronics business and are able to keep doing what you love. I know I love it!
I love this thing so damn much. I kept buying used Walkman on Etsy and eBay and they kept breaking until last year I bought this one and ngl best thing I’ve ever gotten myself. 1000000/10 I love my Walkman I even had a photo shoot with it recently.
Ordering was easy, shipping was efficient, and the product works great! Reminiscent of my very first Walkman!
The nostalgic feeling is absolutely surreal! I picked up a Grade A unit, and the condition is incredible, almost like it just came out of the box. I’ve never been this ecstatic about owning a piece of tech before. Every time I carry it around, I feel like a cool nerdy kid. It’s such a unique blend of retro style and personality that just makes me stand out. My friends keep asking me about it and now they want to get one too. Honestly, it’s not just a Walkman it’s an experience!
It sounds just like when I’m listening to music using my Bluetooth headphones on Spotify. I also kept the wires to my Bluetooth headphones so that I can use them and it’s definitely at least for me more preferable and I highly recommend. The Walkman is great and the music quality still blows my mind. I highly recommend it and it’s definitely something to invest your money in instead of getting a cheaper one off of Amazon.
I've been needing more analog goodness in my life. Worth the money in my opinion.
Love this thing
Walkman does not spin
Great addition to my collection, this baby plays like a charm, has been my daily player since I've gotten it. 10/10!
So far it’s an amazing purchase, I’m just worried about how long the belt will last, since most Walkman models struggle with that. Definitely worth it, even with the anxiety. All the ones on Amazon were absolute dog water and ruined some of my cassettes. 10/10 would recommend even though the price is a bit steep.
Great quality love it.
I luv
I bought this for my younger brother who is getting into collecting cassettes. Player works great and brings back all the nostalgia!
looks and works like new, great packaging, and reasonable shipping speed
Fast shipping and works perfect :)
I like this Walkman very much. The only 3 flaws I noticed were some scratches on the front, the stop button doesn’t firmly snap back into position, and it was made in Malaysia. I thought I would be getting one made in Japan for the price I paid. It sounds very good though and provides me with that nostalgic feeling. Good vibes.
This thing is pretty awesome! I can play radio and also includes headphones, a cassette tape demo, and stickers!! The cassette player looks good as new and I definitely got people talking about my Sony Walkman! Now time to go shop for more cassette tapes haha
just received the walkman i purchased for my daughter for Christmas. it works great so far. i am very pleased with the purchase.
Everything was great!!
Shipping was quick and easy, the product arrived as promised and in great working condition! Add to that a great unboxing experience with some freebees and everything made for a great experience!
Better than FIIO and We Are Rewind by a longshot... Fantastic punchy sound... Happy that a repair product exists because I'm going to play this thing several hours daily until it collapses.
I do quite like it! It’s a nice size and sound quality is fairly good. It’s a little disappointing first play of a brand new cassette (sealed and made this year) had a bit of a slow down to it. It is refurbished though so something I should have kept in mind. Overall pretty happy with it
Absolutely perfect gift! Came fully functional and looking amazing for a refurbished item. Some minor scratches on the surface, but they really give it character. Got this as a gift for someone and now wanting to get my own!
the package actually came in faster than i thought it would which was awesome. as for the walkman itself i LOVE it. the sound is amazing. there’s a few scratches of course but i don't mind it one bit, it just makes me think about the person who used to own it before me. i did, however, have to fix up the tuning just a tiny bit, BUT this website also has a tutorial on how to fix that. the headphones are nice too— i was really shocked how good the sound quality was. but me personally, i decided to use my old beats headphones instead just because i prefer noise cancelling headphones and it also boosted the base a lot more. overall, im very very satisfied with this purchase and it truly was worth every penny. i’ll definitely be buying again from this site!
My gosh, how fun is this! The sound is excellent. I bought this refurbished Walkman after buying several cheap knockoffs that ate my tapes and sounded horrible. Thank you so much.
