Much of the decision comes down to personal aesthetic. Many collectors and enthusiasts consider Sony Walkman models to be among the best ever made, but great cassette players were produced by many brands. Beyond aesthetics, the biggest differences are features like AM/FM radio, auto-reverse, recording capabilities and bass boost. No matter which model you choose, you'll get the core cassette experience of play, fast-forward and rewind.
Yes. Every vintage cassette player we sell is tested and serviced by our technicians to ensure it plays tapes as intended. This is a functional piece of audio equipment, not a prop or display item. We are real humans in Milwaukee, WI and ready to help you if any issues arise!
Cassette tapes have a warmer, more analog sound with a unique character all their own. If you're expecting lossless digital audio, you may be disappointed. If you're looking for a more intentional and tactile listening experience, you'll understand why so many people still love cassettes. Headphone quality also make a notable difference to the listening experience.
No. Most portable cassette players can be connected to any device with an auxiliary (AUX) input, including powered speakers, stereos and many cars. Simply connect a standard 3.5mm audio cable and enjoy your tapes through larger speakers.
Cassette tapes are easier to find than you might think. Retrospekt carries thousands of both vintage and newly released tapes, and many local record stores, thrift shops and vintage retailers stock them as well. Part of the fun is the hunt — you never know what you're gonna find!
Not at all. Insert a cassette, plug in your headphones, press Play and enjoy. Part of the charm of cassette listening is its simplicity — no apps, accounts or updates required.

Very fast delivery as usual! Item was well packed and in cardboard that can easily be recycled. The actual unit is in mint condition with no surface scratches or wear. I can tell it has been cleaned and refurbished thoroughly. My Retrospekt cp-81 has been great though I wanted a unit with AM/FM as well and another unit to give my cp-81 a break. The extra features on this Sony WM-FX323 give it a bit of an edge by comparison due to th continuous play feature which is great for walks. I'll definitely keep buying my accessories and units from Retrospekt. I've bought VHS,tape shelves, and now a walkman from them. They put a lot of care into their work. Buying a walkman somewhere random means not totally knowing how reliable it'll work. I've taken this one on 4 walks and enjoyed it at bedtime(pictured at my bedside manner). Definitely would recommend this model and Retrospekt for your audio needs. No phone. Just a dude and his walkman jamming out to Viagra Boys on a walk!
Utterly phenomenal! I had this same tape player as a child, and I love that I have it again. The unboxing experience was very nice and quite unexpected! My Walkman shipped securely, and inside was a very nice box that really added some flare to the experience. It really felt premium to open. I loved the stickers, the included headphones, and the cassette! I’m really thrilled with Retrospekt. I’ve already recommended to friends, and will definitely order again!
Works amazing! Very cool to listen to music all the way through on vintage tech, I would recommend to anybody who likes music from back in the day! There are even creators who make cassette tapes to this day.
absolutely love ordering from here! the attention to detail in the products and packs is unmatched! will definitely be ordering more, thank you guys!!!
